Clare Herbert
After
graduating with a degree in
Drawing and Painting from
Edinburgh College of Art, Clare
Herbert went on to attain an M.A.
in Conservation of Fine Art,
specialising in easel paintings
at Newcastle Polytechnic (now the
University of Northumbria). |
|
Since
then, she has worked in private studios as sub-contractor
and in museums, as well as on site before setting
up her own business: Conservation Matters.
In addition to studio work, she has worked within
teams on large on-site projects specialising in
painted decoration. The range of the
responsibilities have run from detailed appraisal
of decorative schemes through to management of
teams of specialists.
Clare constantly re-examines
her approach to conservation by
participating in debate with fellow professional
conservators and attending conferences. To avoid
becoming isolated, and stale, she still
undertakes sub-contracting work, to exchange the
latest ideas with other conservators, swap
information on new technology and to keep up to
date. As a member of the United Kingdom Institute
of Conservators, she adheres to the standards in
conservation as recognised by UKIC, including the
Code of Ethics and Rules of Practice.
